MY PHILOSOPHY

ART & SCIENCE
The design process can be seen as a human-centric scientific method; hypothesize, test, gather results, and form a conclusion. However, designers must apply an ‘empathy’ filter to the data. Ultimate conclusions are drawn from multiple quick iterations based on the results.

TEAM
It all starts with the TEAM. The best teams are cross-functional and respect eachother’s strengths and area of expertise. The designer often plays a critical role in the team - linking different thoughts from the other members and synthesizing them into a singular voice. As designers we are inherently dot connectors and holistic thinkers.

Design Thinking....does it really work?
Applying ‘design thinking’ is nothing new to designers, but it has recently become an industry buzz phrase. Why? Because it works. The above chart is an example of how this theory can be framed so non-designers can better understand its importance. Applying design thinking to every project helps the team come to innovative and relevant ideas efficiently.

IN THE END...SMILE
The most creative environments facilitate a sense of camaraderie. In my experience designers work hard….really hard, but for them to feel comfortable to take rewarding risks (that will ultimatley benefit the company) they need to feel safe. Laughter fosters this sense of safety and helps break down walls that inhibit creativity. It has been proven that a team’s laughter and creativity are tied together. If you are not having fun doing what you are doing - then do something else.
